Overview
More glass, less frame.
Aluminium is stronger than any other window material we work with, and that strength translates directly into what you see. Because the frame carries more load with less material, sightlines become slim and the glass area grows.
For homeowners the effect is immediate. Two windows in the same opening, one aluminium and one not, will not give you the same view. The slimmer aluminium profile puts more glass in front of you and less frame in the way, which is why it is so often the right choice for a garden elevation, a rear extension, a bedroom with a view across open country, or anywhere a window is really there to frame something.
It also handles larger openings. Wide picture windows, tall panes and window walls that would be unwieldy in a bulkier profile stay slender and orderly in aluminium. Paired with aluminium bifold or sliding doors on the same elevation, the whole rear of a house can be given one consistent, deliberate language of frame and finish.
Modern architectural aluminium is thermally broken: an insulating barrier separates the inner and outer parts of the frame, so the cold outer face is not in direct contact with the warm inner one. Combined with A-rated glazing as standard and warm-edge spacer bars, aluminium windows deliver excellent insulation, well removed from the reputation aluminium picked up decades ago.
Finish is where aluminium is most flexible. Frames are powder coated, and the palette runs to virtually any RAL colour, including textured and matt finishes, with different colours inside and out where that suits the house. Anthracite grey remains the most requested, but we regularly specify blacks, bronzes, deep greens and softer greys for Cotswold and Thames Valley properties. Powder coating is hard-wearing and does not need repainting.

Fixed picture window
A single large pane with no opening light, giving the slimmest frame and the greatest possible glass area for a view.
Side-hung casement
Slim opening sashes handed at survey, providing ventilation while keeping frame widths minimal.
Top-hung vent
Discreet ventilation above a fixed light, useful in kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms.
Tilt and turn
Tilts inwards at the head for secure ventilation, or opens fully inwards for cleaning and escape. Practical at first-floor level and above.
Corner and mullion arrangements
Coupled units and corner posts allowing glazing to turn a corner or run in an ordered grid across an elevation.
Window walls
Multiple coupled panes forming a full glazed wall, commonly paired with aluminium sliding or bifold doors on the same elevation.
Matched door sets
Windows specified in the same profile and RAL colour as aluminium bifold or sliding doors for one consistent finish.
Rooflight and gable glazing
Fixed glazing to gable ends and high-level openings, keeping frames slim where they are most visible against the sky.

Colours & Finishes
Colours and finishes.
Aluminium frames are powder coated, which means colour is close to unrestricted. We look at samples against your brick, render or stone before anything is confirmed.
Anthracite grey
The most requested finish, and a versatile one. Recessive against most brick and render, and a natural match for aluminium doors.
Matt black
Sharp and graphic. Very effective on contemporary extensions and on renovated older homes with plenty of glass.
Bronze and metallics
Warmer metallic finishes that soften large expanses of glazing and work well with stone.
Heritage greens and greys
Softer, muted colours for Cotswold and Thames Valley properties where a stark contemporary finish would be too much.
Any RAL colour
Virtually the full RAL range, in matt, satin or textured finishes, when a specific colour needs to be matched.
Dual colour
One RAL colour outside for the elevation, another inside for the interior. A dark exterior with a pale interior is a common pairing.
Glass is specified alongside the frame: solar-control units for large south-facing panes, acoustic units near roads, obscure glass for bathrooms and toughened or laminated glass where it is required.

Not in their modern form. Today's architectural aluminium is thermally broken, meaning an insulating barrier separates the outer and inner frame so cold cannot pass straight through. Combined with A-rated glazing as standard and warm-edge spacer bars, aluminium windows are comfortably warm. The reputation comes from single-glazed frames fitted decades ago.
