Three Arch Styles

Find the shape of your window.

An arched opening that has been squared off, or fitted with a flat window and a filled-in head, changes the whole character of the elevation. We make the sash to the arch.

Swept head

A gentle, shallow curve across the head, common under stone and brick lintels on cottages, lodges and Victorian terraces.

True arch

A full semicircular head, popular on Georgian stair windows and Victorian feature windows.

Gothic arch

A pointed head for Gothic Revival houses, estate lodges, school houses and chapel conversions.

How They Work

A fixed arch, a sliding sash.

The arched upper sash is normally fixed, which keeps the curved frame rigid and sealed. The lower sash slides up behind it for fresh air and tilts into the room for cleaning, exactly like a square-headed sash.

Everything else is the same as the rest of the range: A+ energy rating, toughened glass, key-locking cam locks, hidden trickle vents and the full choice of colours, bars and heritage details.

FAQs

Arched sash windows: your questions answered.

Yes. On an arched sash the upper sash, which carries the curve, is normally fixed for strength and thermal performance, and the lower sash slides. A sliding upper sash may be possible on some openings; ask us at survey.
